‘Recreation & Leisure’ was largely a sketch show with layers of social satire and some unpredictable elements thrown in. The show kicked off with great energy and set the tone for an entertaining night.
Without a fluid structure to the piece, it mixed classic sketch comedy with absurd scenes and characters. The show was a little saucy but not to the point of being blatantly ‘sexual’. Actually no, scratch that, there was that one bit… that said, all of the elements of this show felt like they were delivered in good faith and brought humour.
It is difficult to describe the favourites of the night without spoiling some elements of the show. To keep the mystery, the standout scenes for the night included a piece on young love, a classic speech and a new take on soap opera that I did not see coming.
Some scenes polarised the audience but laughs were constant. While you may look at photos of the show, these do not capture the audience’s experience of shock and delight. PO PO MO CO captured a feeling of fun in the room with scenes presented to the audience in an unpredictable way.
‘Recreation & Leisure’ was sketch comedy on another plane. I don’t know exactly what I saw but I know I want to see more of it!
