Set in the circus and highlighting the quirks of two over-the-top characters, Kimberley and Lily’s performances had energy and a little controlled madness (including a lot of comings and goings from the stage).
If there’s anything I know from seeing Kimberley and Lily perform as part of the comedy troupe PO PO MO CO (and now from #romeoandjuliet) is that they commit to a scene and are excellent at capturing an audience’s attention. Lily matched Kimberley’s near ostentatious physicality with well-executed whimsical facial expressions. Both performers drew cheeky laughs and some entertaining reactions from the packed audience throughout the performance.
Certain elements of the show felt a little out of place or even a bit repetitious. That said, the journey the show takes you on is an odd one so it’s likely these elements were intentional and designed to provoke reactions from the audience including shock, intrigue and bemusement.
The scenes that featured both performers onstage at the same time were a particular highlight with the audience always supportive of the two star crossed lovers. Kimberley and Lily worked brilliantly together as they played off one another’s energy and cheek. ‘#romeoandjuliet’ is a love story with a twist that highlights the clowning skills of both performers.
