‘Stand Up Comedy’ was a split-show that didn’t pretend to be more than what it was. Three talented comedians (the aforementioned David, Zack and Izzy) who have been round long enough to put together entertaining short sets with technique that brought good laughs!
Izzy Ali opened the night to warm up a shy audience on the chilly Sunday night. He took a minute to get a ‘read-out’ of the audience but hit his stride in the latter half of his set, covering some personal experiences told from a slightly cheeky perspective.
Next up was 2017 RAW Comedy Winner Zack Dyer! Zack covered the issues you might expect when gazing upon his debonair appearance, but he did so in a way that often surprised. While I usually struggle with drug-related humour, Zack had a cadence to his delivery that was at times, quite charming.
David Rose closed out the night with tales of his adventures locally and abroad. He demonstrated some clever writing, a mix of hit and miss accents and some audience banter. While the stone he turned over with a particular audience member was peculiar to say the least, David’s performance was strongest when he focussed on his entertaining material.
This show didn’t change my world perspective or leave me feeling all warm and fuzzy, but it wasn’t meant to. ‘Stand Up Comedy’ was a fun show, featuring three ‘up and coming’ comedians who are good at what they do, and are only getting better!
