The show started a bit slowly but it worked up quickly, and won the audience over with great energy. Dani was charming and spirited throughout the performance, and Barnie matched it with calm control in what could have been a chaotic performance. Their cheeky teamwork was great to watch, particularly in moments when Barnie would go his own way outside Dani's 'plans', which brought waves of laughter.
The characters and the storyline were not overplayed; instead they provided a great platform from which to launch this delightful physical comedy show. The humour was a little silly but the occasional surprise took the laughter to the next level. In particular, a well-timed snap, crackle or pop brought the house down!
Dani and Barnie’s physicality in their movements was fantastic. While I worried for their safety at one point, it was all part of the show and demonstrated their control, even when they interacted with the audience. One crowd member connected with Barnie in a way that was completely unexpected and brought an audience member to tears from laughing.
‘Weekend at Barnie’s’ was a fun physical comedy show featuring a pair of performers who together bring experience and exuberance.
Check out Barnie Duncan and Dani Cabs in a ‘Weekend at Barnie’s’ from 13 to 18 & 20 to 23 April. For tickets, click here.
