‘Before I Forget’ was structured in a way to bring the audience into the show. It featured game show-like elements that were inclusive and fun. Annie was able to incorporate the audience well into the show to increase the relatable nature of the material. The stories of forgetting or losing things were told in such a way that they were personal but did not feel overly self-deprecating.
Annie has grown as a performer since the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. While already a very competent stand-up comic, she appeared to have added new strings to her bow. Her newly refined confident and assertive manner improved her delivery and the execution of material. Further, Annie demonstrated excellent humility in her storytelling and presented an amicable and approachable persona on stage.
‘Before I Forget’ was an easily accessible and enjoyable show. It did not change world-views but it covered the relatable subject matter well. Annie is a skilled comedian and it is worth seeing her perform before she gets too famous!
